JANE FRENKE
Fiber Artist
Berkeley Springs, WV
"I graduated Seton Hill College, Greensburg, PA in 1968 and then attended New York University towards an MA in art education. I married and had two children and wanted to stay home with them so I started Loom Room, a hand weaving business featuring woven clothing and home décor." "Loom Room has evolved into an umbrella for creativity in fiber. It now encompasses clothing, fabric dying, quilting, wall hangings and other home decorations. After 28 years as a weaver, I decided to buy cloth rather than make it but still am intimately involved in the process. I have become a hands on dyer ... The scrap from the clothing become the beginnings of the silk inserts in the quilts." "I have won numerous awards and ribbons for my paintings and weavings as a young artist – to the latest award – Best Amateur Innovative Quilt at the PA Quilt National, 2000." "Just when I feel as though I’ve exhausted the possibilities on the renovation series, I discover another design waiting to be constructed." - Jane Frenke
