I was born in Honolulu Hawaii and graduated from London Central High School in High Wycombe Buckinghamshire England. I am now residing in Hedgesville, WV where I plan to retire.
My education consisted of the normal classes and Art was one of the classes I was most interested in. After returning to the United States, I had to seek employment and the Art interests were put on hold. I spent a few years in various employment positions and some college unrelated to Art.
I have always been full of excitement and dreams where creativity has always played an important part in my life. I worked for 15 plus years as the Creative Designer/Event Manager for Balloon Bouquets of Washington, Inc. doing balloon decorations and sculptures for corporate and social events on a large scale.
I have been producing art in one form or another for quite a long time, paintings, drawings, sculptures, carvings etc. I never took any art courses. I am a self taught artist. The majority of my artistic creations have been done as gifts for family and friends.
My friends, neighbors and family have always encouraged and supported me as an artist, saying "you’re good at what you’re doing." So with the help of good friends, I was given the love and courage needed to succeed.
Recently I started to carve goose eggs, doing filigree and scratch etching styles. I am now venturing into doing the larger size Emu and Ostrich eggs. I can’t imagine growing weary of this artistic medium, because there seems to be no boundaries to the ideas and creativity that can be produced on such a delicate canvas.- Michael Wilcoxen
