CAROL REECE
Goldsmith
Morgan County, WV
I have been fabricating jewelry for 31 years, I am not surprised to find myself involved in the arts, since I spent my childhood working with my hands, sewing, crocheting and other needle arts, clay and stained glass. I started out working in sterling silver, but decided to specialize in 14 karat gold after six years in business.
I like to keep my techniques and accompanying tools simple, preferring to focus on variety of forms. Spontaneity of design is my goal. I "go" with my first impulse. Since I produce one-of-a-kinds and hand-build each piece, I can change my design instantly if a new idea occurs along the way. I also try to keep my price range moderate, desiring as many people as possible to own a piece of my artwork.
My work combines design elements both modern and reminiscent of antique jewelry. My jewelry is increasingly tending towards the sculptural; and Im currently exploring kinetic movement in the pieces. I am not afraid to be different. People are always telling me that they see playfulness in my work, and that it looks like I am having fun at my workbench.
