Metal Sculptor

I have been creating art and gardens all my life, but not until I wanted sculpture for my own garden did I purse metal art. About 10 years ago I took a course with the Art League at the Torpedo Factory in art welding. I was so motivated I quickly purchased my own welding torch. In 2000, I was accepted into the Vermont Studio Center for a month long artist residency. In the Vermont mountains, I was inspired to create over 20 pieces during my time there. I returned to Virginia to show my art at such locations as the Arlington Ellipse Center, Arlington Arts Center, Brookside Gardens Conservatory and the National Botanic Garden at the foot of the Capitol. But I soon started the search for a studio space that would recreate that mountain inspiration. I found it in West Virginia returning to the State where I spent six years getting my formal education. Now with an established studio in the hills of West Virginia, I continue to create art in the peaceful mountain environment that I love. In my sculptures I use steel and let it rust naturally for a warm, soft glow not normally associated with industrial metal. My art ranges in size from table-top pieces to over 6 feet of garden sculpture.

Each sculpture carries a little of my humor and much of the West Virginia Spirit. Residing part time in Virginia and creating art in my West Virginia studio, I look forward to displaying my sculptures with the many other talented artists at the Ice House Artists’ Co-op Gallery.
